Ben Affleck is in a bit of hot water, and his appointment as the next Batman leaves us wondering what is in store for the online slot world.

Love him or hate him – and there are plenty for whom it's certainly the latter – there's no doubt that 41-year-old Ben Affleck is still big currency after all these years. A string of failed films haven't dampened his Hollywood appeal, so the powers that be at Warner Bros have given him the role of Batman, upon whom the hit online slot the Dark Knight is based.

The eighth actor to don the iconic mask and cape, Affleck is due to star in the 2015 double-bill film opposite Henry Cavill's Superman. The role of Bruce Wayne, by day a billionaire playboy and by night a crime-fighting caped crusader, naturally calls for a degree of depth and complexity – and there are thousands of people who don't think Affleck can pull it off.

Within minutes of Affleck being named to the role, thousands of fans took to the internet to protest. Twitter was awash with furious fans demanding a #betterBatmanthanBenAffleck, including suggestions of Steve Buscemi and the inflatable autopilot from the film Flying High. Almost 51,000 people have signed the petition at Change.org, calling for Warner Bros to replace him.

The criticisms mainly stem from his past work, leading fans to believe that he doesn't have the goods to do justice to the role of Batman. Former Star Trek actor Wil Wheaton is said to have written: "Really looking forward to seeing Affleck bring the depth and gravitas to Batman that he brought to Daredevil and Gigli".

Affleck himself has said that his role as Daredevil and its very poor reception had 'inoculated' him against ever playing another superhero. Despite the news being taken very badly by the potential audience, it's unlikely that Warner Bros will reconsider the casting considering the fact that Ben Affleck still pulls in impressive figures at the box office.

Hollywood squabbles aside, here in the gambling world we're wondering whether we'll see a new Superman slot grace our screens. Do you think a Man of Steel slot would be a good idea? What would you like to see on it?
