Crystal Palace beat Watford at Wembley in the Championship Play Off Final to take the Eagles to the Premier League next season, ending an eight year period of being starved of Premier League action.

No doubt sports betting punters will be looking at the odds of them staying in the English Premier League, but for now Palace fans will be enjoying the moment together with the players and Ian Holloway.

The game was intense with both teams knowing how much the win would be worth to the fans and club. In the end, it was a penalty kick superbly taken by Kevin Phillips, that was the difference between the two teams on the day. It was a fitting goal for the veteran Kevin Phillips, as he has been on the losing end of three play off finals in the past, and just reflects his determination to be able to compete at the top level.

The penalty was due to a Marco Cassetti foul on the talented Wilfried Zaha. There was a few close calls for Crystal Palace during the game, and even in the final minutes of the game, Watford came close to getting the equalizer. But is was not to be, as Fernando Forestieri’s attempt was headed off the line by Joel Ward.

The ascension into the Premier League is claimed to be worth £120 million, and will serve to provide the Eagles some cash to make sure they stay in top flight football is not short lived. There is already rumours that Palace will want to extend the loan of Zaha, who has already agreed to be heading to Manchester United for the start of the new Premier League season.

Ian Holloway will be keen to keep his team together while adding a few players to bolster up his squad. Ian will no doubt have the experience to know that he must keep the spirit of the team going into the tough competitive league. Supporters will hope that Kevin Phillips will stay with the squad, and see the player back in the Premier League playing with best!
