After Fernando Alonso’s fifth place finish at the Hungarian GP, the driver was understandably frustrated and it brought in fresh rumours of his departure from Ferrari for a seat at Red Bull.

Fernando is currently third in the Drivers’ Championship and 39 points behind the leader Sebastian Vettel. It is no secret that Ferrari have not been able to live up to expectations this season, especially with all the betting online for this year for them to take on Red Bull. The car has been uncompetitive for at least three or four seasons now, and only with the sheer brilliance of Alonso have they been able to remain in the hunt for titles and wins.

It all came to a head when the Ferrari’s president Di Montezemolo gave Fernando a call to wish him a happy birthday. When he was asked what he wanted as gift for his 32nd birthday, the Ferrari driver replied ‘someone else’s car’, which did not go down well with Luca Di Montezemolo. All of this was revealed by Ferrari, as way one would suspect of publically reminding Alonso of his responsibility to the team and to channel his frustration into getting the car improved with the help of the everyone involved at Ferrari.

It also served another purpose, and that is to curb the rumours of Fernando Alonso’s thoughts of leaving Ferrari for Red Bull. It has been an open secret that Red Bull will probably need a replacement for Mark Webber, who has been not terribly satisfied with his treatment at Red Bull and we all know all too well of his ongoing dislike of Sebastian Vettel. The situation has become even more interesting as Alonso’s manager had a meeting with Chris Horner, Red Bull team boss at the Hungarian GP.

Only time will tell as what impact Luca Di MOntezemolo’s comments has on Fernando Alonso and any plans to leave Ferrari for Red Bull at the end of the season. We all know Alonso is a proud man and well accomplished driver, and whether Luca’s words will serve to calm the driver, or only make the move to Red Bull even more likely is anyone’s guess.
