Formula One team Sauber has decided to sign Simona De Silvestro, a Swiss driver and only the second woman to be involved in an F1 Team since Susie Wolf’s appointment as a development driver for Williams.

Sauber fans will be betting that the 25 year old woman can make a difference to the team in the long run and Simona has all the qualities and experience to make her a success in a sport very much dominated by men. The Sauber team will be looking forward to De Silvestro taking the driver’s seat proper in 2015 and carry on from where she left off in IndyCar Racing.

IndyCar Racing in the United States is regarded as the best of racing, and it is reflected as such with its popularity and competitiveness. Simona De Silvestro’s racing career started in 2006 and she has been IndyCar racing since 2009. In 2010, she finished 19th with 242 points and was awarded ‘Rookie of the Year’ at the Indianapolis 500. In 2013 Simona came second in Houston, and 13th overall with 362 points. Her statistics reflect constant improvement, as she strives to be one of the best in her chosen field.

Team Boss of Sauber, Monisha Kaltenborn, regards the signing as a ‘talented driver’ and had no hesitation in supporting Simona to achieve a life long dream of being successful in Formula One. The Swiss driver has recognised the huge opportunity she has been presented with, and has stated that she hopes to make sure Sauber does not regret her signing!

Simona will still need to acquire her super licence which is a requirement to be met by all Formula One drivers. This will predominantly be made up of 300 km of testing in a F1 car. The FIA can waive this requirement if it is deemed the driver is already suitably qualified to be part of the specialized sport.

I am sure, we would all like to take this opportunity to wish Simona the very best and I am sure that she will make Sauber and herself very proud in this new and wonderful stage of her career!
