Andy Murray beat Fernando Verdasco 4-6 3-6 6-1 6-4 7-5 in a gruelling match which saw the British Number One go two sets down before rallying to take the next three sets, and keep the British hopes of winning Wimbledon alive.

Online betting operator Bet365 have Andy as second favourite priced at 9/5, with Novak Djokovic being the odds on favourite to take the title. The match started with all expecting Murray to deal with the left handed Verdasco relatively quickly, but it turned out to the complete opposite!

In spite of a bigger number of unforced errors from the Spaniard, it was he who took the first two sets and left Andy Murray wondering where did it all go wrong. The first set was lost at the very end with a double fault by Murray and the second was just a host of mistakes by the British hope that gave strength to the mighty serve and forehand returns. But Andy Murray had been in this spot before, and his experience showed as he slowed down his game and dug deep to win the next three sets against Fernando whose forehand showed no remorse throughout the match. One must admit that the tension and anxiety increased as the match went on, especially with the loss of the two sets and crowd playing every shot with Murray and experiencing the pain of every missed opportunity to break the serve of the Spaniard.

Andy Murray now progresses to the semi finals and is set to face the Jerzy Janowicz on Friday. Jerzy is seeded 24 in the world and brings another big serve and powerful forehand. It will be interesting to see how Andy copes with yet another big hitter on tour. Hopefully Andy would have had enough practice from Fernando to deal with the Pole and keep the British dream alive!
