Pakistan have managed to end South Africa’s impressive 15 match unbeaten run, with an emphatic seven wicket victory in the first test at Abu Dhabi.

It was good win for the Pakistan team, as it only the fourth time they have been able to beat the South Africans. It actually reflects Pakistan’s gradual ascendance in form at the United Arab Emirates, where they have a nine match unbeaten run and that does include the 3-0 whitewash of England in 2012! Pakistan supporters will be betting online that their team can build on this and hopefully get a win at the second match in Dubai.

On the final day, South Africa started on 74-4 which was still 121 shy of making Pakistan return to the batting crease. But the game didn’t get any better as the score quickly became 133-6 as Faf du Plessis was out with an outstanding return catch by off spinner Saeed Ajmal. De Villiers and Peterson made a 57 run partnership, and could have done better but for the wicketkeeper being caught by Shan Masood Khan off the bowling of Junaid Khan. Peterson carried on with the fight back, but Ajmal got rid of the tail end and that meant Pakistan had a small target to achieve an historic win!

Pakistan did stumble a bit at first, with the South African opening bowlers Philander and Steyn getting rid of Pakistan’s top three batsmen. However, the win was inevitable with Misbah leading his team to victory with a 28 not out score and a massive six off of Peterson’s bowling. Pakistan now have a 1-0 lead in the two Test series. Paddypower currently have the second test match in Dubai priced up with Pakistan 13/5 and South Africa 13/10 to win, and the draw at 15/8.
