Roger Federer crashed out of the US Open as he was beaten in straight sets 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 6-4 by the Spaniard Tommy Robredo.

This ends Federer’s bid to win the US Open trophy for the sixth time and online sports betting punters will be disappointed once again in the failure of the Swiss player to have a chance of facing Rafael Nadal. Roger disappointed his fans, just as he did at Wimbledon, where the player went out in the second round eight weeks ago. This year seems to be a struggle for the talented player, as he has not been able to make it to a Grand Slam Final for 2013.

Roger Federer has been suffering with his back for quite some time, and as a result his form has taken a nose dive as well. This was all too evident against Tommy Robredo, as Roger’s service game was woeful, and only converted two from sixteen Break Point opportunities. On paper and past history Federer should have been the clear winner, with Tommy never beating the Roger in ten attempts, but it was definitely Tommy’s day to shine even after the match being delayed for more than four hours.

Federer’s earlier match play at the tournament looked strong and punters would have been expecting him to go on to be in the running for the title along with the other usual suspects, like Nadal, Murray, Djokovic and Ferrer. But it was not to be, and It was very disappointing to see Federer lose in that fashion, and even he admitted after the match that he ‘self destructed’.

The next step for the player will most certainly to take hope from his earlier performances at the US Open, and to analyse exactly where he went wrong. His fans will be hoping that there is some good wins left in the 32 year old player, and that he can regain his past form and glory.
